Stress is a natural emotional and/or physiological response to real or perceived threats or danger. You could say that it is Mother Nature’s way of protecting us.

Unfortunately, for some folks, it has become a chronic lifestyle, rather than a very temporary condition —  like it is supposed  to be. We are talking about unhealthy stress in this case.

But sometimes, stress can actually be a good thing. It can produce hormones that help with performance (sports, etc.) or protect us from danger (fight or flight Adrenalin). Most of us can live with that kind of stress.

However, chronic stress can be very unhealthy. It can lead to a number of psychological or physical symptoms including a sense of unease, feeling overwhelmed, fearful, depressed, or phobic. As the body reacts to  these conditions, debilitating conditions can occur — and may need to be medically treated. In fact, most folks don’t even realize the effects negative stress can have on their overall health!

Controlling Stress

How do we control stress? Hypnosis can be a very good way to control stress. Self hypnosis is particularly effective in reducing stress. Why hypnosis? Because 90 to 93% of your daily activity is controlled by your subconscious mind ( or the Boss). Hypnosis can create a relaxed and responsive state of mind that allows you to go around your conscious thinking (the gate keeper) —  and get right to the real root of the problem (by going to see the Boss directly).

Hypnosis is a perfect vehicle to manage and reduce stress since it is based on getting the client into a deeply relaxed state of mind. Regardless the degree or type of stress, the more relaxed a person can be the easier it becomes to reduce and manage stress.  Relaxation can help reduce the release of hormones and chemicals that can be harmful to the body.

In addition to relaxation techniques, hypnotherapy for stress management can also use suggestions and affirmations that will allow a person to perform self-hypnosis and lower their stress levels. Once learned, these combo techniques can be used anytime the person feels a need for them.  Imagery can also be very effective with this.

Everybody deals with stress in a different way. Most of us realize that a certain amount of stress will be present in our day to day lives. But, the trick is to learn how to control the stress, and not the stress control us.  The level of stress present is a result of 1) how we deal with pressure, 2) our emotional resilience, and 3) our perception of an occurrence or event.

Hypnotherapy can help you control your stress and anxiety levels. And with the help of a hypnotherapist, a person can begin to identify the causes of their stress. This could be any number of things such as past situations or experiences, psychological or physical issues, self worth issues, or relationship issues from the past.

After finding the true root of the problem, the hypnotherapist can then work with a person to develop an agreed upon goal — such as how you will  feel once the stress has been controlled. The hypnotherapist can then use a variety of techniques to aid in achieving success. Stress hypnotherapy can begin to work in as little as one or two sessions.
